01Ordering and shipping
How quickly will my order arrive?
Within Germany in 2–3 working days after order confirmation, abroad in 5–7 working days. For advance payment the period starts with your payment instruction. No deliveries on Sundays and public holidays. A 24h express is available for Germany. All details on Payment and Shipping.
What does shipping cost?
Germany €5.50 (standard) or €19.90 (24h express), free from an order value of €150. European Union €14.90, international €19.99. Outside the EU customs charges may apply and are borne by the recipient.
My ceremony is in a few days. Can I still make it?
Call before you order: +49 871 97 40 734-0, Mon–Fri 09:30–16:30. We tell you what is still possible by your date. Caps, gowns and sashes are stock items and leave the same working day with 24h express.
Can universities, student councils or public authorities order on invoice?
Yes. Payment by invoice is available to public authorities and businesses; the invoice amount is due within 7 days. For universities we also build a dedicated ordering portal through which your graduates order themselves.
Where do you deliver?
To Germany, all countries of the European Union and internationally including Switzerland, the UK, Norway, the USA, Canada, Australia and Japan. If your destination is missing, we are happy to check shipping individually.
02Sizes and fit
Which gown size do I need?
Our standard gowns follow height: XS 140–155 cm, S 155–165 cm, M 165–175 cm, L 175–183 cm, XL 183–190 cm, XXL 190–198 cm. For in-between sizes choose the next size up — a slightly roomier gown looks more elegant than one that is too tight. The full chart is in the measurement guide.
Does the cap fit everyone?
Our caps sit with an elastic band and fit common head sizes. If you are unsure, measure the circumference above the eyebrows and call us — we advise you personally.
When do I need individual measurements?
For premium gowns and made-to-measure robes — such as doctoral, professorial or official robes by Manufaktur Bavaria — we tailor to your exact measurements. Our video shows how to measure; send your measurements directly via the measurement form. An accuracy of ±1 cm is sufficient.
03Choice, colours and tradition
Which qualities are available for gowns and caps?
Gowns come in the qualities GLANZ, MATT, ELEGANT and GO GREEN (recycled fibres); caps from BASIC through MATT and GLANZ to ELEGANT with a full tassel, plus octagonal velvet tams for doctorates. Cap-and-gown sets start at €24. See the collection.
Which colour should my sash or facing be?
The classic assignment follows the US “Academic Costume Code”: law purple, medicine green, engineering orange, economics copper and so on — the full table is in the colour guide. In Germany many universities set their own colours, often per programme. If your ceremony runs through one of our university portals, the right colour is already set there.
On which side do I wear the tassel?
Before the conferral on the right, afterwards on the left: moving the tassel is the symbolic moment of graduation. The guideline dates from 1959 and applies worldwide. More in our history of cap and gown.
Can I have a sash or gown embroidered?
Yes — with your name, year or your university’s logo. Individually embroidered items are excluded from the right of withdrawal because they are made for you. If your ceremony date is fixed, call us before ordering so the embroidery is ready in time.
04Payment, returns and withdrawal
How can I pay?
You see all payment methods at checkout — including PayPal, credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and advance payment by bank transfer. Payment by invoice is reserved for public authorities and businesses. Bank details and specifics on Payment and Shipping.
Can I return items if something does not fit?
Yes. Consumers may withdraw within 14 days without giving reasons; you return the goods within 14 days and bear the return cost. Individually embroidered items are excluded. The fastest way is to withdraw online — with immediate confirmation of receipt — on Right of Withdrawal.
When do I get my money back?
No later than fourteen days after we receive your withdrawal, using the same means of payment you used. We may withhold reimbursement until the goods are back with us or you have proven that you sent them.
05For universities and ceremony planners
How does outfitting a whole ceremony work?
Through a dedicated ordering portal for your university: your graduates order online with your packages and colours, we deliver, hand out on site on the day and collect the same evening. You preview the page and go live when it suits you. No workload for your office.
Rental or purchase — what makes sense for our ceremony?
For large ceremonies, rental with on-site handout is the standard: checked and cleaned ELEGANT quality, delivery, handout, collection — we plan with a buffer and deliberately bring a little extra. Purchase makes sense when your graduates want to keep gown and cap. Both can be offered in the same portal.
Do you also dress presidents, deans and faculty?
Yes. Academic gowns for your dignitaries are made in your university’s corporate design — made to measure at Manufaktur Bavaria in Landshut, with a five-year manufacturer’s guarantee and a choice of fifteen linings from our swatch card.
What do our graduates receive after the ceremony?
With meaning moments a free graduation reel and the printed Memorybook as a lasting keepsake — dignified, without the cringe. For the ceremony itself we offer Graduation Live with stream, photo gallery and download.
