6 measurement points for the perfect fit
All measurements in centimetres — always round up for in-between values
Height
Stand upright without shoes. Measure from the sole of the foot to the crown of the head. This value determines the base length of your gown.
Stand against a wall and mark the crown height with a book.
Chest circumference
Measure the circumference across the widest part of the chest. The tape should run horizontally and sit loosely — not constricting.
Breathe normally and keep your arms at your sides. Wear a thin top.
Sleeve length
Measure from the shoulder seam to the wrist with the arm slightly bent (approx. 15°). This measurement determines the length of the gown sleeves.
Ask a second person to place the tape at the shoulder seam.
Back length
Measure from the 7th cervical vertebra (clearly felt when tilting the head forward) to the desired gown length — usually to the middle of the shin.
The 7th cervical vertebra is the most prominent bone at the top of the back.
Shoulder width
Measure from shoulder seam to shoulder seam across the back. Important for the correct fit of the gown at the shoulders.
The shoulder seam is where the sleeve and the shoulder meet.
Waist circumference
Measure the circumference at the narrowest part of the torso — usually at navel height. Relevant for fitted premium gowns.
Only necessary for made-to-measure or fitted models.

Frequently asked questions about measuring
Can I order the gown without taking measurements?
Yes. Our standard gowns are available in sizes XS to XXL. Simply choose the size based on your height from the size chart.
When do I need individual measurements?
For premium gowns and made-to-measure robes (e.g. doctoral or professorial gowns) we tailor to your exact measurements. Here the measurement guide is mandatory.
What should I do for in-between sizes?
Always choose the next size up. A slightly roomier gown looks more elegant than one that is too tight.
How precise do the measurements need to be?
An accuracy of ±1 cm is perfectly sufficient. Important: do not measure over thick clothing and stand up straight.
